The CEO's one-page weekly view (Template inside)
Hi Everyone,
CEOs usually notice problems before their teams do, and the reason is simpler than instinct. The CEO sees the sales forecast, the support queue, and the cash position in the same week, so they catch two numbers moving together while everyone else watches only their own.
Today we're giving you the tool that creates that view β a one-page weekly report with your teams' numbers side by side, plus a template to set up yours.
The weekly report HashiCorp ran
Kevin Fishner was Chief of Staff at HashiCorp, a software company that grew to over $500 million in revenue before IBM bought it.
Every week, compiled a weekly "corporate reporting pack" with people from sales operations, finance, and the go-to-market teams.
He described it as "an attempt to get as close as possible to a company cockpit where we can see leading and lagging indicators and know if the company is flying effectively."
His example was the sales forecast, a number finance and sales often reported differently. The report forced them to agree on one figure. And because it showed every team's numbers on the same page each week, it was the one place where a problem spanning two teams could be seen.
What goes in yours
The template we built has a tab for each team and a menu of metrics to choose from. Pick around 10 in total, across at least three teams, and track them week over week.
Four rules make it work:
One official source per number: Revenue comes from billing, cash from the bank, usage from the product database, etc.
Max three minutes to read: If the page takes longer, cut metrics until it doesn't.
Same 30 minutes every week: You spot problems by comparing this week to last week. Skip a few weeks and small changes could go unnoticed.
Keep short notes on what changed: Two numbers changing at the same time (for example, tickets up while renewals slow down) are worth checking, even when each one alone looks fine.
You don't need to run the whole company
This works at any level where you manage more than one team. If you run marketing and sales, your report covers the funnel from first visit to closed deal. If you run product and support, it covers adoption, ticket volume, and renewal dates.
